The PIT-CNT will hold this Tuesday, March 8 a 24-hour general strike in the framework of International Women’s Day. The measure called by the trade union center will partially affect the operation of some services, while others will be normal.

In Montevideo, the Feminist Fabric —a space for several women’s groups and organizations— called for a concentration in Plaza Libertad and in Plaza de los Treinta y Tres (firefighters) from 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Transport

in passenger transport the unions of the sector adhere to the measure, but will not stop activities, so the services will be offered normallyaccording to the National Union of Transport Workers (Unott).

Banks

In the private banks of Montevideo hThere will be a partial general strike from 4:30 p.m., so public attention will be normal until that time. And in the official banks, the AEBU union calls for the unemployment of women who want to do so, but it is not mandatory. Branches will be open to the public throughout the day during regular hours. Inside, the dynamics of participation in the strike is subject to what each departmental plenary resolves, he explained to The Observer the president of the Central Council of AEBU, Elbio Monegal.

Public health

In public health, as usual, the unions will form part of the strike, but there will be guards for the operation of urgent and emergency services. The same thing happens with private health.

Central administration

Within the Confederation of Organizations of State Officials (COFE), the largest unions call for all officials to stop, while in others only women will do so, such as Mides and Loterías y Quinielas, for example, he told The Observer the leader Joselo Lopez.

Teaching

In education, the unions also adhere to the measure and the concurrence of teachers to the different initial, primary and secondary education centers will depend on each worker. For example, at UTU only women and dissidents will stop, according to Cynthia Carrasco, a member of the UTU Officials Association.

At the University of the Republic (Udelar) it will be the same: the female officials will stop, but the services remain with male officials. Daniel Olivera, a member of the Federal Association of Officials of the University of the Republic (Affur), commented that “it depends on each place” and that “the sections that are completely made up of women are going to be resentful.”

The university teachers will also stop all day. “Women are unemployed, but no service is closed in itself,” explained the president of the Association of Teachers of the University of the Republic for the Faculty of Medicine (ADUR-Medicine) Daniela Lens.

ANDn Ancap, the union resolved on Friday that women will not work that day, while there will be union guards in key sectors such as the La Teja refinery and portland cement plants run solely by men. And in UTE the strike will be only for women, as reported to The Observer union leader Gabriel Soto. The commercial offices will all function normally, except for the one in Paso Molino. Attention will also be normal in the telemanagement service.
