The BHD Leon Bank plans to soon remove the surname León from its name and change its name to just Banco BHD, once approved by the shareholders’ meeting, the president of Centro Financiero BHD León and the financial institution’s Board of Directors, Luis Molina Achécar, reported today.
The name change process is expected to begin on July 1 – the month when the bank turns 50 – and would last for about a year, due to the changes implied by the official adoption of the new name in its logo and financial products. such as customer credit and debit cards, checkbooks and others.
During a virtual meeting with media directors, editors and journalists, Molina Achécar explained that, when the BHD and León banks merged, it was agreed to keep both names to guarantee financial security and peace of mind to customers and shareholders. The agreement covered using León for five years, which could be extended, as was done.
The banking executive indicated that, after the worst period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the conditions are in place for the name of the merger to be made official as Banco BHD at the shareholders’ meeting to be held on the 24th of this month and, Once approved, it will take effect on July 1.
The change will only be in the name, insisted Molina Achécar. He emphasized that the corporate structure and the management address will remain the same, except for the name of BHD León Puesto de Bolsa, from which the surname León will be eliminated.
The BHD Leon Bank was founded on July 24, 1972 as Banco Hipotecario Dominicano. It was in 2014 when the share contribution merger agreement between Centro Financiero BHD and Grupo Financiero León was formalized, resulting in the merger of banks BHD and León into a single entity: Banco Múltiple BHD León.
