What is the difference between the Army and the National Guard?

Differences between Army and National Guard

The main difference is that the Army is in charge of national security, that is, of confronting those agents that put the State at risk or threaten it.

While the GN is in charge of public security and citizen security.

Another difference is that the GN is a civil, disciplined and professional institution, assigned as a decentralized administrative body of the Secretariat for Security and Citizen Protection.

While the Army is the land branch of the Mexican Armed Forces and reports to the Secretary of National Defense.

In addition, those who are part of the Army must receive military training, while those who join the GN must receive mandatory civilian police training.

It is worth mentioning that the person who heads the Mexican Army is always the president in turn, however, the administration, organization and preparation of the Mexican Armed Forces depends on the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena).

While the institutional operational coordination of the GN is currently made up of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Secretariat of National Defense and the Secretariat of the Navy, it is for this reason that the commander of the GN is General Luis Rodríguez Bucio, a military command.
