What is the C2 Centro and how will it work to reinforce surveillance in CDMX?

According to the authorities, the Historic Center of Mexico City comprises perimeters A and B in an area of 10 square kilometers and a total of 700 blocks.

Around 145,000 people live, but the population can triple due to commercial activities, services, tourism, marches, demonstrations, political activities, among other items.

Due to the above, the Government of Mexico City decided to concentrate monitoring through 1,850 cameras, that is, 220 for each square kilometer located in the Congreso, Morelos, Centro and Alameda sectors.

It will have 23 camera operators and emergency care in each of the four shifts. Each operator will be in charge of monitoring 40 cameras and will have the powers to monitor suspected cases of a crime.

In the event that it is observed in the security cameras that there is suspicion that a crime is being committed, the operators may ask elements of the Citizen Security Secretariat to come to the point to prevent any event.

In addition, the C2 Center has a crisis room, so that any emergency can be attended by senior police officers and high-level authorities in case it is required.

The authorities of Mexico City considered it important to concentrate surveillance in the Historic Center, since a third of the incidents registered in the capital take place in perimeters A and B.

In addition, half of the emergencies, medical emergencies, and high-impact crimes occur in the Historic Center.
