“We are armored against treason,” says AMLO while discussing reform

On Monday, the president announced that he would send an initiative to reform the Mining Law, to guarantee that the exploitation of lithium corresponds to the nation, only if “the betrayal” is confirmed in the Chamber of Deputies and they vote against his electricity reform proposal.

“The next day I send the law to reform the Mining Law and protect lithium because, for that reform to the Mining Law, lithium, because it is a strategic mineral for the development of Mexico, which should not be handed over to individuals, which should being the property of the people and the nation, for that specific reform, an absolute majority is not required, it is with a simple majority”, explained the president on Monday.

The Chamber of Deputies is preparing to vote, expressly (without going through the ruling of the commissions), the reform of the Mining Law, in terms of lithium protection.

Although the initiative did not yet exist, since it had not yet been sent to the Chamber by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, this afternoon the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) agreed to request the board of directors of the Chamber of Deputies to convene a session of the plenary this Monday to approve the legal amendment.
