The Cuban men’s team defeated Guatemala 3-0 and will go out today in search of their second victory in the Pan American Cup for North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca) under 21 Volleyball. The event takes place at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum.

After defeating the Guatemalans in group A with scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-14, the Cubans will play the Nicaraguans, a match in which they appear as favorites.

Against the Guatemalans, the Cubans were better in attack, 37 points to 13, in blocking (9-2), in service (9-4), but in their own errors they were below (20-25), according to the statistics of the game.

Individually, the opposite attacker Alejandro Miguel González stood out, with 16 units, six in attack, six in blocking and four in service, followed by center back Alexis Wilson (5-1-4) and corner Bryan Camino (3-3 -4).

Local passer Yonni Jesús Iglesias, team captain, declared: “the game was comfortable, what we did was relax and play as we are used to. This year in preparation we set out to get to the podium and go out and give it our all to fight for first place”.

The program for this Tuesday, the second and penultimate date of the preliminaries stage, is completed with the challenges between Canadians and Haitians, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, and Americans and Guatemalans.

Thursday will be the quarterfinals with the crossing of the second and third of each segment. Friday will be the semifinal.

For this phase, the leaders of each section will guarantee their positions, awaiting the winners of the quarters, in addition to the beginning of the fight for places from fifth to eighth.

On Saturday will be the dispute of the bronze and gold medals, in that order. The Cup does not have the presence of Mexico, owner of the silver medal in the 2022 edition, when Cuba finished in fourth place.

On that day the positions from five to eight will also be defined.
