The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, stated that with the onset of winter and the cold “it is expected that the number of cases of Covid 19 will increase“, speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with the Argentine Network of Scientific Journalism (RAdPC).
“Given the start of lessonsthe full attendancethe beginning of winter and the coldand regardless of the Ómicron variant or the BA2 subvariant, it is expected cases increase“, he pointed.
“Although we knew that with the vaccines we were not going to stop having cases, the objective of vaccination is that this increase does not translate into hospitalizations and deaths“, he added.
“That’s why it’s very important moving forward with vaccination against all respiratory diseasesadvance with the reinforcements of Sars cov 2 and Covid-19 because with the perception of risk going down, people miss their shifts and do not come to vaccinate,” he said.
Meanwhile, he pointed out that “work is being done with the ministers of all jurisdictions to change the parameter of epidemiological surveillance which consists of stopping counting the number of cases to start evaluating the index, the reason for hospitalizations in intensive care for Sars cov 2 and the tension of the health system “.
“It is important to monitor respiratory diseases in an integrated way,” he specified.
Regarding the fourth booster dose against Covid-19, the minister reported that “people who completed four months since their second or third dose, if they had an additional dose, come to receive their reinforcement since they are available at the vaccination centers“.
“Between additional doses and reinforcements we are with a little more than 18 million doses applied. The population at greatest risk has that protection, as well as people who need to travel abroad. What we are looking for is to move forward with the rest of the population that is missing,” she added.
“Adolescents, having started the vaccination schedule later, are just now turning four months old.”
“And for those boys and girls between three and eleven years oldthere is still no recommendation for booster vaccination in the world,” he concluded.
