Viracopos Airport records a profit of R$ 276 million in 2021

The concessionaire that manages the Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, recorded profit in 2021 for the first time since the beginning of the concession, in 2013. According to Concessionária Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos SA, the revenue was R$ 1.1 billion last year resulting in a net profit of R$ 276 million.Viracopos Airport records a profit of R$ 276 million in 2021

Revenue represented a growth of 29% compared to 2020, when the concessionaire had a loss of R$ 322 million. According to the administrator, there was a significant increase in the flow of passengers and cargo at the terminal.

In 2021, 105,300 planes passed through the airport, an increase of 43% compared to 2020, when the movement stood at 73,700 aircraft. The number of passengers grew, in 2021, by 50% compared to 2020, reaching 10 million travelers.

In 2019, the year before the pandemic, there were 114,400 takeoffs and landings and a movement of 10.5 million passengers.

In cargo handling, there was a 39% growth in 2021 compared to 2020, with 364,300 tons of imports, exports and national shipments. Imports, the most important operation in terms of revenue for the concessionaire, had the best year since 2014 in 2021, with the arrival of 153.4 thousand tons, an increase of 27% over the previous year.

In 2021, the airport received more than 210 million doses of vaccines against covid-19.

In 2013, Viracopos registered 163 thousand tons in imports and, in 2014, 155.7 thousand tons, the best results of the airport. In 2019, the terminal handled a total of 216.4 thousand tons of cargo (imports, exports and national shipments).

Loan

The good results will allow the administrator to anticipate the payment of installments of the loan that was made with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) at the beginning of the concession contract. According to the concessionaire, this negotiation is already at an advanced stage.

relicitation

Due to financial difficulties, in November 2017 the shareholders asked to return the Viracopos concession to the federal government. The decree for a new bidding process for the airport was signed by President Jair Bolsonaro in July 2020.

At the beginning of last March, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) approved the draft contract to open the new terminal concession process.
