«(…) I am moved to think about what our families suffered. I think more than those of us who were —prisoners— in El Chipote; but not even this pain we were allowed to share! Because the lack of communication with our loved ones was the worst of the worst,” said Granera, currently exiled in the United States.

“I am frankly surprised and grateful to God for having allowed me to survive that inhuman torture and for having supported all of us, and little by little I am realizing or accepting how hard it was,” she added.

She also stressed that it has been difficult for her to assimilate the situation that she lived for more than 20 months locked up in the cells of “El Nuevo Chipote” because (she) tends “not to skate on problems and to seek solutions.”

«I am receiving invaluable support from this great and wonderful solidarity that we are receiving from Nicaraguan and foreign human Angels “who fly around us” and little by little I feel that I am being reborn, with faith and hope in our return to our beloved Nicaragua », emphasized the member of the Blue and White National Unity (Unab).

Granera, 70, was kidnapped on June 8, 2021. Judge Fifth Criminal Trial District Félix Ernesto Salmerón Moreno sentenced her to eight years in prison and disqualified from holding public office, allegedly for “conspiring to undermine the national integrity.”

During her captivity —as denounced on several occasions by her relatives— she was subjected to cruel and inhuman treatment. On February 9 of this year, she was exiled to the United States along with 221 other former political prisoners. The Ortega dictatorship also stripped her of her nationality, accusing her of treason.
