Viera highlighted the dynamic effect of domestic tourism in the launch of Expo Moto

The Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, stated that, after many Uruguayans “discovered the country” during the pandemic, the objective is to continue with the stimulus to develop domestic tourism. Likewise, he considered that the events are a great catalyst for economic activity, during the presentation of the second edition of the International Moto Expo, which will be held on the Rambla of the city of Mercedes.

The hierarch was accompanied, this Monday 4 at the ministerial headquarters, by the undersecretaries of Tourism, Remo Monzeglio, and of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Juan Ignacio Buffa, in addition to the director of Tourism of Soriano, Elena Laguzzi, and the organizer of activity, Alexander Watters.

“The tourism of fairs and events is very important all over the world because it generates a movement that cuts across different activities,” said Viera, referring to the second edition of Expo Moto Internacional, which will take place from April 8 to 10 at the capital of the department of Soriano.

The minister considered that not only Soriano, but also the entire region of the western coast of Uruguay, will benefit from this exhibition. He also mentioned that, in the neighboring Argentine city of Gualeguaychú, a similar event is being held, recognized as one of the main events in Latin America.

The revitalization of domestic and regional tourism is driven by events such as the one described, in which visitors can also find and complement in Soriano a large offer of cultural, historical-heritage and nature tourism, he said.

He added that during the pandemic and before the closure of borders, many Uruguayans “discovered the country”, so, during Tourism Week, they will choose to continue with leisure and recreation activities in Uruguay.

You can enter the event specialized in motorcycling for free; There, products related to this practice will be offered. In the 2019 edition, the exhibition brought together 40,000 national and foreign participants.

“It is an event of great magnitude, with a high economic impact and positioning of Soriano’s image as a tourist destination,” said Laguzzi, who praised the actions of the Binational Tourism Forum made up of Soriano and representatives of Gualeguaychú, in favor of promoting tourism on both banks of the Uruguay River.

Expo Moto is supported by the Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Soriano. The agenda of activities includes proposals for all ages, such as motorcycle stunts, test track, gastronomic patio, talks with figures from that activity and live shows. A free motorcycle technical review sector will also be developed.

Among the novelties, a minicar track for children and an amusement park stand out. In addition, there will be stands linked to the sale of units, accessories, clothing and manufacturer exhibitions.
