About five apartment buildings were affected this morning, due to the shock wave produced by the explosion recorded in the Urbana building, on Calle 54 de Obarrio.
According to the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC), so far more than 500 people have been evacuated, including children, women and people with disabilities who have been transferred to safe places.
Preliminary reports indicate more than 20 injuries due to the incident and zero fatalities, confirmed Sinaproc.
For his part, Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Núñez, from the San Francisco Police Zone, indicated that teams of paramedics from the National Police, Sinaproc, Panama Firefighters and the Single Emergency Management System (SUME), are making the transfer to secure sites.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Government, Roger Tejada, specified that the result of the investigations will be awaited for the rest of today and called for calm among the population.
