The Congress of Peru approved modifications in the Migration Law. The approved changes penalize with a fine landlords who provide accommodation without informing migration of the data of foreign tenants
The Congress of Peru approved the modification of articles 10, 45, 61 and 63 of Legislative Decree 1,350 (Migration Law) with which it limits the entry and transit of foreigners and obliges them to prove a regular migratory situation to rent a property in the country.
Likewise, the changes approved in the Migration Law penalize landlords who provide accommodation without informing migration of the data of foreign tenants with a fine.
The modifications to the norm were approved with 85 votes in favor, 15 votes against and 9 abstentions on January 13, reported the Peruvian Congress, with the argument of improving citizen security.

Figures from the National Superintendence of Migrations, for the year 2021, indicate that the number of foreigners residing in Peru reaches 1,347,000, of which 87% are of Venezuelan nationality. Peru is the second largest recipient of Venezuelans in the world, after Colombia, according to estimates by the R4V Platform.
How many Venezuelans are in an irregular situation in the Andean country?
The results of the Survey aimed at the Venezuelan population residing in Peru (Enpove 2022), prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), reveal that 65% of people from Venezuela have some migratory permit to stay on Peruvian soil. .
However, a significant percentage of Venezuelans do not have any type of permit (35.3%).
