Venezuelan exiles criticize meeting between the US and Chavismo

The organization of Venezuelans Persecuted Politically in Exile (Veppex) expressed this Monday his “rejection” of the visit made this weekend by one of thehigh-level delegation of US officials to Caracas to meet with members of the President’s government Nicholas Maduro.

Veppex, based in Miami, Florida, said in a statement that it is “completely inconsistent manifest the illegitimacy and criminality of Maduro and subsequently meet him looking for some kind of trade agreement Given the serious situation that is being experienced by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The purpose of the trip to Venezuela was, as confirmed today US government spokeswoman Jen Psaki “discuss different topics, including of course energy security”.

This is the first visit by senior US officials to Venezuela in years.

For this group of Venezuelan exiles, “the meeting with Maduro evidence some kind of recognition of his figure as the legitimate president of Venezuela and ignores his criminal career as a drug trafficker, terrorist and human rights violator, for which he has a reward and open trials in the United States”.

In Veppex’s opinion, The United States “wasting its time trying to negotiate with Maduro” and “dismisses his own power by deal with criminal delinquency that represents” the Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro “in the continent”.

“You cannot fight a tyrant, recognizing and negotiating with another”, affirmed the organization of Venezuelans.
