Venezuela dismantles gang that dug tunnels to rob banks

ANDThe Minister of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace of Venezuela, Remigio Ceballosreported that the Criminal and Criminal Scientific Investigations Corps (Cicpc) detained eight members of a transnational gang that was dedicated to Steal banks in the state Barines.

The operation, in which four Colombians and four Venezuelans were arrestedhappened just when the criminal group was drilling the ground under the vault of the Banco Nacional de Crédito (BNC) of Barinasfor which they were charged with ‘detention in flagrante delicto’.

According to Cicpc investigations, this group he not only made tunnels to rob banks but also to rob companies of high monetary income.

The Colombian detainees were identified as Erminson Romero Rayo (49), Jose Orlando Gelves Espinel (53), Orlando Jose Romero Cerquera (66) and Carlos Enrique Saucer Flores (64) and the Venezuelans are Jonathan David Hernández Márquez (22), Leonel Alejandro García Cordero (22), José Arístides Volcanes Bastidas (26); Francisco Manuel Cataño Garcia (34).

The authorities explained that the criminals’ modus operandi was stay in hotels or rental houses in different states of the country for “long periods” in which they studied and planned the routes to dig and rob banks or companies.
