Venezuela and PAHO discuss possible cooperation in immunization areas

She assured that in Venezuela there is the will to create a robust health system that overcomes the “adversities” that have been imposed with the sanctions.


Venezuela and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) discussed the possibility of technical cooperation in the areas of immunization and human resources. This was announced by the director of the multilateral organization Jarbas Barbosa.

“During the meeting today with the Minister of Health of Venezuela, Magaly Gutiérrez Viña, we discussed the health challenges in the country and opportunities to strengthen PAHO’s technical cooperation in the areas of immunizations and health human resources,” wrote the May 24 through your account on the social network Twitter.

Gutiérrez participated in the PAHO World Health Assembly. He assured that in Venezuela there is the will to create a robust health system that overcomes the “adversities” that have been imposed with the sanctions.

“Each surgical intervention, each treatment, each transplant, each timely diagnosis, each health center that we reactivate and rehabilitate, each life saved, each doctor that we graduate and that restores health to a Venezuelan brother and our people, is part of the fight to defeat this blockade”.

During the assembly the director, for his part. PAHO urged Ministers of Health and high-level delegates to use all available knowledge and resources to ensure that people’s health is at the center of the global response to future pandemics and emergencies.

“We, the survivors, have a great responsibility and an urgent imperative to launch bold actions” that are a balance of the experience of countries in the response to covid-19, he said.

In his speech, on strengthening the global architecture for health emergency preparedness, he stressed that, although preventing a pandemic can be extremely difficult, “we must break the historical pattern of panic and negligence in the face of pandemic threats.”

He described as crucial that the Member States of the organization participate in the discussions led by the WHO for the development of an international instrument that strengthens the prevention, preparation and response to pandemics, as well as in those related to the update of the International Health Regulations ( RSI).

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make global health emergency preparedness and response fit for purpose, and to strengthen its foundations,” he added.
