Venezuela and China strengthen ties between Caracas and Guangzhou

Venezuela and China reviewed the agenda of cooperation to promote programs, projects and exchanges, which allow fostering mutual development at a social and cultural level between Caracas and the city of the Asian giant Canton (Guangzhou).

The information was released by the mayoress of the Libertador municipality, Carmen Meléndez, who through her account on the social network Twitter highlighted the meeting this Wednesday with the Chinese ambassador to Venezuela, Lan Huwith whom he evaluated the actions to be developed to increase cooperation between the Venezuelan capital and Guangzhou.

“I had the honor of receiving the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to our country, Lan Hu. We talked about the Twinning Project between Guangzhou, capital of the Province of Guangdong, and Caracas,” the Mayor posted on Twitter.

At the meeting, “we talked about the Twinning Project between Guangzhou, capital of the Canton Province, and Caracas,” added Meléndez.

In this regard, he emphasized that the agreement between the two nations seeks to strengthen friendship, cultural relations and other areas of mutual interest with China, said the Mayor.

“This agreement between both cities will allow us to promote programs, projects and exchanges, and thus foster mutual development. In this way we will be further promoting development and culture between China and Venezuela,” Meléndez said on the social network.

It is important to highlight that cities are spaces for ideas, culture, science, productivity, trade and development, which is why the agreements that allow the promotion of links between Caracas and Guangzhou are of great importance.

The southern Chinese city of Canton, also called Guangzhou, is the capital of the province of Canton or Guangdong and the third largest city in the Asian giant, after Shanghai and Beijing.

Venezuela-China relations

Venezuela and China They have maintained diplomatic relations since 1974, but it was with the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez, since 1999, that the bilateral link took on a strategic nature for the development plans of both nations.

In this sense, in 2001 the China-Venezuela High Level Mixed Commission was created and thanks to the important steps achieved in the political-bilateral relationship, in 2014 the ties were raised to a Comprehensive Strategic Association, during the visit of the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, to the country.

“Relations between Greater China and the Homeland of Bolívar have reached their best level of mutual trust, work and cooperation,” the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, recently emphasized.
