Deputy Edgar Leoni: The primaries are a contradictory and exclusive process

The deputy of the National Assembly (AN), Edgar Raúl Leoni, member of the Internal Policy Commission, and belonging to the Acción Democrática (AD) faction, pointed out that “The primaries are an internal process of an opposition group. And we consider that it is detached on some points, it is contradictory: They do not accept the National Electoral Council (CNE), but next year they are going to the elections with this body. In addition, it is exclusive, since in these primaries only those who want to participate will participate.

The deputy gave these statements on the “Al Aire” program, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), where he was a special guest this Wednesday.

Leoni considers that the great failures that the opposition has had is due to the fact that they abandoned the electoral route. “That’s what happened in 2005, 2018 and 2020,” he said.

In relation to the issue of the candidates disqualified by the Comptroller General of the Republic, the deputy indicated that “This must be discussed at the negotiating table, and if consensus is reached for a rehabilitation of candidates, it is welcome.

“If a candidate does not believe in the democratic path, they should not go to an electoral process, because this represents a contradiction,” Leoni said.

The deputy also stressed that, before the electoral scenario, recovering the faith of the citizen towards the political actors is fundamental; Therefore, in his opinion, you have to work in order to serve the country.

In relation to the Foreign Policy Commission, he explained that they continue to review the justice system to guarantee legal certainty, and in the implementation of the Organic Law on Asset Forfeiture.

Finally, he said that the electoral organization for the Acción Democrática party is being carried out, and he urged those who want to participate to follow the electoral path.
