Venancia Group, annulled NGO: "They close our doors, we open our wings more!"

The non-governmental organization banned by the Ortega-Murillo regime Venice Group He ruled that although its doors are closed “we open our wings more” in response to the cancellation of its legal personality by the Sandinista deputies before the National Assembly.

Grupo Venancia is one of more than 100 NGOs stripped this week of their permit to operate in the country. There are already more than 850 associations and organizations that the dictatorship has ordered to close. The figure could increase in the coming days.

The NGO assures that its cancellation is a “blow” that “hurts” but does not knock them down because “every time they touch one of us, we all respond and remember, and that only strengthens us.”

«Grupo Venancia is a collective political commitment that unites us with other women, organizations and networks in local, national and regional spaces, and no one can cancel that. We are not a piece of paper or four walls, as others have already said. We remain in resistance, and with creativity we will continue to take flight so that Nicaragua flourishes free and feminist », she points out.

“We raise our protest against the arbitrary cancellation of the legal status of Grupo Venancia, since, like hundreds of organizations, we have complied with all legal requirements to function transparently since we were born 31 years ago,” the NGO denounced in its social networks.

The organization worked on issues of popular feminist education and communication with women, girls, adolescents and young people, mainly from rural communities in Matagalpa and Jinotega for the recognition of their human rights in different contexts and articulated efforts to question power and position their demands against the State and society.

“During these years we have promoted processes of personal and collective empowerment to sustain life in an integral way, be it to fight against sexist violence and accompany the healing of the wounds it leaves us, as well as to recognize the freedom to love whoever we want. , the importance of art and culture, care tasks, our relationship with the land and the impact of extractivist projects, among many other topics”, they highlight.

“This is not a blow to us as an organization, but to the women we accompany, to those who want to change their minds, to feminist defenders and activists, and to the entire community fabric that resists, not only in the north, but throughout Nicaragua” , Add.

In the statement they recognize the “international solidarity support and cooperation organizations” with which to create alliances since its foundation. They ensure that donor agencies “have witnessed transparency in the management of funds and accountability for our processes.”

“No legal closure eliminates the deep commitment to human rights and the seedbed growing in generations of women who join the flight of this feminist tide that defends the idea that we are people subject to rights because without our participation there is no freedom, justice, democracy or development,” he says.
