Hugo Velázquez, Vice President of the Republic and presidential candidate, was the target of criticism last week, after eight pro-government deputies contributed to the “rescue” of Sandra Quiñónez, State Attorney General.
The “Force Republica” movement led by Velázquez has 18 members and 8 stayed in the session to provide the necessary quorum for the rescue of Quiñónez.
In an interview for 730 AM, he stated that his bench does not shine for discipline. And that, therefore, there were legislators who gave the quorum.
He affirmed that the struggle he has within the Colorado Party is to confront the Cartes model so that he does not return to Paraguay.
“It’s a very difficult fight because I don’t have what it takes to campaign. The leader is the president of the Republic and there are things that as vice president I cannot do”, he pointed out.
He said that the situation hit him, but unfortunately he was not in the country to act more effectively. It should be remembered that days before the impeachment trial, the vice president traveled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for a political meeting
He stressed that they met at the house of Arnaldo Samaniego where they decided to support Quiñónez’s dismissal as a caucus.
“To win the board of directors, the confrontation with Chartism was very strong. And then came the political trial for Sandra Quiñónez in which her deputies begged the opposition not to present the accusatory libel,” he commented, alluding to the fact that the opposition was responsible for presenting the document without having the votes for its approval.

About the rumors that the currency for the rescue of Quiñónez was the armor of his brother Carlos Velázquez, commander of the Navy, linked to a case of mega smuggling.
In this regard, he pointed out that if his brother is truly responsible for the act, he should be removed from office without fail.
