Vargas Maldonado – “Social democracy must articulate citizen majorities”

PRD vs.

Spain.-Miguel Vargas Maldonado declared that the electoral resurgence of social democracy in the world should lead its leadership to organize alliances with the people, in pursuit of welfare conditions.

Vargas made the statement during his speech at the Presidium meeting, in turn, preparatory to the XXVI Congress of the Socialist International, an electoral conclave to be held in this city from this Friday until Sunday the 27th of this month.

“The electoral resurgence of social democracy in the world, during the last five years, must now be consolidated so that our member parties and movements articulate political majorities and citizen majorities that lead us to raise the flag of a ruling social democracy in every corner of the planet”, remarked.

The politician added that “reaching that goal requires intense work days, a lot of dedication and, above all, the conviction, the faith that the just and dignified world to which we aspire is possible.”

Likewise, Vargas expressed that “the leadership that will emerge from this Congress, headed by President Pedro Sánchez, will have the responsibility of leading the Socialist International at a crucial juncture for the political order of our time.”

He said that, therefore, said leadership “besides becoming a meeting point for the various ideological nuances that characterize social democracy in the world, be an active agent in promoting the best causes of humanity and a creator constant stream of new ideas forged in the light of the social democratic beacon”.

He added that said Presidium must “draw the path so that the Socialist International is able not only to address the challenges that the present and the future hold for us, but also to turn them into opportunities for social democracy with the construction of a model of development fair, sustainable and in harmony with the planet”.

The president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) is also president of the Socialist International (SI) for Latin America and world vice president of that organization.

When delivering his speech under this condition, he also declared that “spreading even more the message of solidarity, cooperation and equal opportunities for all that characterizes our ideological creed is the main task of the Socialist International starting from this Congress.”

Likewise, he considered said conclave transcendental because the geopolitical context in which it is celebrated demands from its participants sufficient sharpness, maturity, high-mindedness and unity within diversity to find the best way to overcome, through social democracy, the “giant challenges” that humanity of this time has.

Vargas thanked the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), as the host organization, for its hospitality and “the excellent organization that manifests itself in each of the activities that make up this Congress of the Socialist International.”

Reiterates its support for Pedro Sánchez

The XXVI Congress of the Socialist International will hold elections for the presidency, the general secretariat and the vice-presidencies of said organization, among other issues to be discussed.

In his address, Vargas Maldonado once again expressed his support for Pedro Sánchez, president of the Government of Spain, as president of the SI.

“I have great hopes and I place all my confidence and my commitment to the work that Pedro Sánchez will carry out as president of the International. As I have said on other occasions, he has more than enough conditions and qualities to lead the Socialist International successfully during this time, and you know that he has the determined support of us to achieve the objectives agreed upon by this historic Congress”, he pointed out.

In the Presidium dinner meeting, held this Thursday in Madrid, within the framework of the XXVI Congress of the Socialist International, the following participated, in addition to Vargas Maldonado: Pedro Sánchez, Spanish ruler, Yorgos Papandreu, current president of the SI, Luis Ayala, secretary general of said organization, and another 30 vice-presidents of different nations.
