Vaccination against monkeypox is expanded

The Ministry of Health (MINSA) through the Public Health Directorate decided to expand the application of the Monkeypox vaccine in order to be able to cover the largest population at risk in all its Health facilities, (MINSA).

The authorities indicated that the post-exposure Mpox vaccine will continue to be applied to contacts of positive cases within 4 days after exposure and up to 14 days in the absence of symptoms and vaccination of exposed health personnel (exposure to patients with Mpox with inappropriate use or non-use of PPE)).

It was established that the Mpox vaccine will be applied to patients with HIV-AIDS with risky sexual behaviors (MSM, gay and trans with multiple partners or sexual relationships with casual partners) regardless of their viral load.

The intradermal application of the vaccine will be maintained (two doses of 0.1 ml each) to vaccinate both contacts of positive cases, pre-exposure to the risk group and exposed health personnel.

The MINSA will reinforce the strategies between the ART clinics and vaccination personnel to promote and offer vaccination to patients, guaranteeing access and availability of these during care days.

Likewise, primary public health interventions have been strengthened, surveillance, diagnosis, care, isolation, tracing and follow-up of contacts, and health promotion actions on the subject of self-control to reduce the number of sexual contacts.
