US experts visit the Barrio Obrero hospital for chikungunya

The experts spoke with the directors, managers of the services and patients of the care center to gather information on all possible scenarios for chikungunya.

professionals of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, for its acronym in English) visited the facilities of the hospital center, with the purpose of observe the care of patients hospitalized for chikungunya and, at the same time, talk with the health authorities of the aforementioned care center.

Experts from the United States, specifically from the CDC, EIS epidemiologists – Epidemic Intelligence Servicewere accompanied by specialists from the Directorate of Health Surveillance.

On the occasion, they spoke with the directors, managers of the services and patients of the care center to collect information of all possible scenarios to later evaluate and present the conclusions that will be submitted to the national authorities.

The delegation was made up of Dr. Susan Hillis, epidemiologist from the Surveillance and Epidemiology team of the Arbovirus Diseases Branch, Dr. Amy Beeson, officer of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EISO) at CDC-Fort Collins, Dr. Roberto JF Esteves, Senior Technical Advisor for the South America Regional Office.

Likewise, Dr. Rosa Galeano and Lic. Lorena Romero, technicians from the General Directorate of Health Surveillance, were received by Dr. Jadiyi Yinde, general director, Dr. Alicia Ibáñez, medical director and Lic. Nilda Arce from department of epidemiology of the Institution.
