US Congress analyzes documents torn up by Trump after assault on Capitol

The legislative committee that investigates the assault on the United States Capitol of January of last year has in his possession a series of documents torn up by Donald Trump when he was in the White House, as reported by the newspaper Washington Post.

The papers come from the National Archives, in charge of keeping all the work documents of a president after he leaves the White House.

“Among the presidential documents received by the National Archives there were paper documents that had been torn up by former President Trump“, confirmed the institution.

Some sheets were “taped together” by “White House records management officials,” he added. Others remained as they were.

According Washington Post, these documents are part of more than 700 pages transmitted by the National Archives to the parliamentary commission that investigates whether Trump was responsible for the coup against Congress by his supporters on January 6, 2021.

The so-called “January 6” commission refused to clarify which documents it had in its possession and which specifically had been torn up.

But in mid-January he announced that he had begun to receive certain documents “that the former president hoped to keep hidden.”

Among the 700 pages of files received lists of those who visited the former US president or called him on January 6 as well as the notes taken during those exchanges.

At the same time, the commission, made up of a majority of Democratic legislators, seeks listen to several relatives of the former Republican president. Some of them received subpoenas and others, like his daughter Ivanka Trump, were simply asked to testify.

The legislators of the commission they want at all costs to publish their conclusions before the mid-term elections in November, in which Republicans could regain control of the House and bury their work.
