The delivery of Peirano Basso to the Paraguayan Justice was scheduled for October 30, but the Judicial Power of Uruguay suspended it due to the existence of another extradition request made by the Argentine Republic.
This Friday, November 5, the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed its recognition of the “coordinated and collaborative work carried out with the Judicial Power and the Public Ministry to obtain the preference granted by the Uruguayan Justice”, and also recognized, “ the management of the Embassy of Paraguay in Uruguay for the representation exercised in the hearing held on that date, in defense of the interests of the State ”.
Judgment
Peirano Basso will have to face in Asunción a lawsuit initiated by Paraguayan savers who lost some 40 million dollars, which were in the Banalemán Mutual Fund, owned by the Velox Group.
In June 2013, the Uruguayan Justice first sentenced the Dante brothers, José and Jorge Peirano Basso for the bankruptcy of the Banco de Montevideo, whose prosecutions had been initiated in 2002, after the serious economic and financial crisis.
In 2017, meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Justice upheld the conviction, but the Peirano brothers filed an appeal with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
