Uruguayan exports increased 60% in year-on-year terms

This Wednesday, December 1, Uruguay XXI presented its Monthly Foreign Trade Report for November 2021.

In the accumulated from January-November 2021, exports totaled 10,390 million dollars, registering an increase of 42% compared to the same period in 2020.

Bovine meat, electricity, cellulose, wood, meat by-products, soybeans and beverage concentrate are the products with the greatest positive impact on the variation of the period.

Likewise, it is indicated that in November 2021, export applications, including free zones, totaled 1,097 million dollars, leading to a rise of 60% in interannual terms. The increase in exports of beef, cellulose, beverage concentrate, malt and electricity are the goods with the highest positive impact that explain the monthly variation.

Main destinations

Exports to China expanded 62% year-on-year in November and stood at 251 million dollars. The Asian country was the first export destination of the month, representing 30% of the total. Likewise, in the January-November period, sales accumulated an increase of 70%, reaching 2,472 million.

Brazil was ranked as the second export destination in November, with 227 million dollars, a figure that represents 27% of the total exported in the month. Sales registered an increase of 108% compared to shipments to that country in November 2020, highlighting the positive impact of exports of electricity and malt.

While sales to the European Union stood at 75 million dollars in November 2021. The block ranked third in the ranking of export destinations with a 9% share.

In the month, sales of the main export products grew, beef (63%), wood (768%) and wool and fabrics (227%), which largely explain the growth in monthly sales to the European bloc. In the period January-November 2021, exports stood at 772 million dollars, an expansion of 43% year-on-year.
