UPCN of San Juan was crowned champion of the Argentine Volleyball League for the ninth time

UPCN de San Juan was crowned champion of the men’s Argentine Volleyball League (LVA) this Saturday, after beating Ciudad Vóley at home 3-1 (25-21, 26-24, 17-25 and 27-25) in the fourth game and close the final series 3-1, to the best of five.

The Guild, directed by Fabián Armoa, won the ninth title in the League to become the winningest team in history in the highest category of Argentine men’s volleyball. Until now, UPCN equaled Bolívar Vóley – a club created by television host Marcelo Tinelli and which disintegrated two seasons ago – in eight titles in its 10 finals played and now added its ninth star (of 11) with the two-time championship.

UPCN, which had also beaten Ciudad in the 2021 final, prevailed on its court in front of 3,000 people and had as its best players Manuel Armoa Morel -elected MVP of the finals by the Club Association- and San Juan Federico Pereiramember of the Argentine team that won the Olympic bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games, author of 24 points.

The top scorer of the match was the Chilean Vincent Parraguirrefrom City, with 26 points.

Manuel Armoa Morel, son of the UPCN coach and former player Carla Morel, just 19 years old, scored a total of 455 points in the season and had great performances in the final series.

UPCN won the first game of the finals at Ciudad’s stadium, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Núñez, by 3-1, although later Ciudad equalized the series 1-1 after winning 3-2 at its stadium. With the final moved to San Juan, the Gremio took advantage of the local situation: it beat “Muni” 3-0 on Thursday night and this Saturday afternoon it played better again to win the match 3-1 and settle the series in four games to avoid going to the fifth in the Federal Capital.

For Townthe team led by Hernán Ferraro (DT of Las Panteras), was the second consecutive runner-up in the League (LVA). The people from Buenos Aires were the best in the regular phase and defeated Monteros de Tucumán in the quarterfinals by 2-0 and Once Unidos de Mar del Plata in the semifinals, also by 2-0.

UPCN, third in the regular phase, eliminated River 2-0 in the quarterfinals and also Policial de Formosa in two semifinal matches, which had started as the second favorite in the playoffs.
