A new bill was approved by the Ugandan parliament against the rights of LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) people and aims to toughen sanctions against the community.
The bill “against homosexuality 2023” presented by legislator Asuman Basalirwa, seeks to penalize homosexuality more severely.
Specifically, the project seeks to prohibit and penalize with up to 10 years in prison those who practice homosexuality in the African country.
President Yoweri Museveni, who called homosexuals “deviations from the normal” on March 16, still needs to approve it.
Museveni has accused the West of wanting to impose this sexual inclination on Africa.
Already in 2014 Uganda sought to penalize up to life imprisonment those with homosexual inclinations but the text was annulled by the Constitutional Court of the African country.
