Unlocking energy consultation will attract 35,000 million dollars to Mexico: Coparmex

If Mexico decides to unblock the request for energy consultation with your business partners and comply with what you signed in the USMCA on equal conditions for American and Canadian companies, investments of more than 35,000 million dollars would arrive to settle in various states of the country, he said Jose Medina MoraPresident of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (coparmex).

After several state governments raised their hands to welcome the automaker Tesla and it was decided that the construction would be in Nuevo León, the bosses’ leader announced that “in Houston, Texas, New York, Los Angeles and Canada, they tell us that there are authorized projects and financing (for Mexico) and they only hope that the country complies with what that signed in T-MEC, and that request for consultation (in energy) is unlocked ”.

In a press conference to present the results of Data Coparmex 2.0In the third quarter of 2022, the general secretary of Coparmex said that although the organization’s partners considered that it is a good time to invest in Mexico due to the context of the nearshoring and the advantages offered by the T-MEC, the Investing Mood indicator presented a reduction of 2.6 percentage points in the last year compared to 2021.

“Nearshoring is a great investment opportunity for our country, the decision of the United States government to make a strong investment of semiconductors and having this production close by opens up a great opportunity for Mexico that we have to take advantage of. A lot of investment is coming and we have to be ready, part of what has stopped the investment has to do with the request for consultation with the governments of the United States and Canada, regarding what we signed in T-MEC on the conditions of equality between the American and Canadian companies that are waiting if we are going to comply with what we signed”, responded the president of Coparmex.

He insisted that many states want to pull the investment, as it was in the case of Teslabut “if we resolved the issue of the request for consultation from the United States government, many more projects would come, it has been said that foreign investment last year was 35,000 million dollars, it is a very important amount and yes it is, what What we do not see is that there would be at least as much, another 35,000 million dollars from business organizations and companies in the United States, Canada and other countries, if we resolve this issue,” he said.
