Japan, which is leading the pact’s accession working group, said members had agreed the UK could proceed to the next phase of membership talks, Japan’s Cabinet Secretary said in a statement.
The UK is expected to present its market access offer, for example on tariffs, to members within the next 30 days, it added.
“CPTPP members remain committed to maintaining high standards and market access throughout the accession process,” the secretariat said.
“The next steps are being coordinated between CPTPP members and with the UK.”
Great Britain began negotiations in June last year to join the pact, which it considers key to moving away from Europe after Brexit and closer to geographically more distant economies, but with higher growth.
