The rainy season in Ecuador has left 48 dead and 82 injured since last October, the National Risk Management Service reported on Saturday.

The downpours have led to landslides, floods and the collapse of structures in 22 of the country’s 24 provinces, leaving 8,506 people affected and 1,120 homeless, he added.

Almost three weeks ago, a flood caused by the most intense rain in two decades recorded in Quito devastated a sports field where several dozen people were, leaving 28 dead and 52 injured.
