Unions blame Corpac for flight cancellations and delays

Various business unions, related to the aeronautical sector, exports and tourism, warned that there are new provisions of the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation () that will generate delays and cancellations of flights in January.

“On January 1, in a totally arbitrary, sudden manner and without support shared with the industry, a provision that increases the separation times between flights has been extended until January 31, 2023, which will once again impact the itineraries at the national level. national,” they said in a statement.

These measures, they affirmed, do not have “any type of planning that gives airlines the opportunity to generate a contingency plan to adequately protect their passengers.”

They also specified that only until last month around 4,476 minutes of delays were generated, harming more than 254 international returns and 35,000 passengers of multiple nationalities.

“These provisions show the serious deficiencies of Corpac in the administration of the air traffic service, a continuous problem that would have as its main support the lack of sufficient air traffic controllers,” they highlighted.

In this sense, they urged the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the regulator Ositran to take the necessary measures to allow the proper development of air transport and “air navigation services be declared an emergency as happened in 2013.”
