The 193 member countries of the United Nations (UN) participate in this Mondayon Monday (28), at 10 am, in New York, of the emergency session of the General Assembly, with the aim of voting on a resolution condemning the Russian military offensive in Ukraine.
The convening of the emergency session was approved in this Sunday (27) by the Security Council, when 11 countries voted in favor, including Brazil, the United States and France.
Russia was against the decision, but could not use the power of veto, as this type of procedure is not allowed. Three nations abstained from voting: China, India and the United Arab Emirates.
The resolution may be approved by the General Assembly by two to havevotes in favour. It will not be binding, but to haveto political weight.
This is the first time since 1982 that the Security Council has called for an emergency session of the General Assembly.
