Ukrainians in Panama ask President Cortizo to prohibit the passage of Russian ships through the Canal

A group of people who peacefully demonstrated in Parque Urraca sent a petition to the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, to prevent the passage of commercial and military ships through the Panama Canal.

¨We, the undersigned Ukrainian men and women, as well as friends of Ukraine, ask you to join the countries that carried out sanctions, to stop a dictator who violated all international human rights standards, principles of self-determination of peoples and coexistence peaceful. For this reason, we urge the Panamanian people and you (Laurentino Cortizo), as president, to consider the possibility of closing the passage to Russian commercial and military ships through the Panama Canal, until the war stops and all the invading troops return to their country”, they stated in the letter, addressed to the president.

On the other hand, 416 people have signed a petition, through social networks, that seeks the Government of Panama to develop a support program for the displaced population, especially the most vulnerable in Ukraine.

According to the petition, it seeks to create an emergency aid package in situations of sudden displacement. All those primary needs, in the first days and weeks of displacement (food, shelter, etc.).
