Ukraine bans the Communist Party on its territory

MIAMI, United States.- The Ukrainian Justice banned the Communist Party in the country on Tuesday, after the Ministry of Justice requested its disqualification for alleged collusion with Russian positions, reported the news agency Europe Press.

According to the note, “since the beginning of the war, the Ukrainian Justice has prohibited the activities of several opposition political formations, alluding to their alleged justification of the Russian invasion, on February 24 by order of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin”.

The ban was ratified by the Eighth Administrative Court of Appeals of the city of Lviv, and with it the activity of the Communist Party of Ukraine has been declared illegal, while its economic funds and financial assets have been transferred to the “property of the State”, reads the note, which cites a report by the Ukrainian agency UNIAN.

On the occasion of the Russian invasion, said Europa Press, the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, under martial law, issued a presidential decree prohibiting the activities and requisitioning the properties and assets of those political formations that had links with Russia.

In this regard, on May 14, the Ukrainian president put into force a new amendment to said party law with which the list of reasons why a political formation could see its activities closed was expanded, either to justify or deny the Russian invasion, or for presenting it as an internal conflict or a civil war

The Communist Party of Ukraine has asked for strength in Parliament since 1992, until it was left without representation in 2014, a time marked by the beginning of tensions between Russia and Ukraine due to the Russian accession of Crimea and the start of the war in Donbas.

This Tuesday’s ban also includes the Happy Ukraine party, a project of Oleksander Klimenko, who was Minister of Revenue and Duties under the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, expelled from office in the framework of the 2014 riots for his pro-Russian positions.

According to the Europa Presa note, in recent weeks, the Ukrainian Justice has also prohibited the formations Opposition Platform for Life, the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, the Shari party, Nashi party, Opposition Bloc, Left Opposition, Union of Left Forces, Socialist Party of Ukraine, Socialists and Vladimir Saldo Bloc.
