“From now until then we have learned of different meetings that (Fernández) has held together with the minister of the portfolio, Juliet Brodskywith the purpose of agreeing on and transmitting the story that La Moneda would seek to promote during the commemoration,” the legislators stated in the letter.
“However, one of the biggest aspects that has caught our attention and that, of course, causes us surprise and concern, is that these meetings have only been held with representatives of the ruling parties,” they added.
In turn, they indicated that “we are concerned that -so far- the current administration has not taken into account inviting the opposition parties to participate and contribute to said commemoration, especially considering that the Government itself has expressed its willingness for the date has the characteristic of being ‘transversal’, ‘intergenerational’, that summons ‘different perspectives’ and, even, ‘integrates diverse political sectors’”.
Finally, the UDI bench of deputies requested in the letter to consider “the participation of our party in any of the planning instances of the 50 years of September 11. If indeed the objective is to give the commemoration a transversal, transparent character and impartial, we believe that it is essential that all political forces be summoned”.
When asked about the letter, the journalist Patricio Fernández maintained that “it is entirely contemplated that the technical table of the Ministry of Culture meets with the right-wing parties. If it still does not materialize, it is only for reasons of time and schedule. The call is in charge of the ministry. I look forward to those meetings.”
