UCAB warns that there is a renewed intention of the State to militarize schools

The UCAB believes that the fact that the bricomiles act under the scheme of 1 by 10 and that the civil part is associated with a political movement, is separated from what really is the purpose established in the Constitution for education. He also says that by fixing the schools and making it an “emergency”, what he wants is to seek an impact on public opinion.

The School of Education of the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) denounced a statement on Wednesday, July 20, that there is a new intention by the State to militarize educational establishments throughout the country through the so-called “bricomiles”, which are in charge of repairing, adapting and improving the physical plant of more than 80% of schools and colleges.

He stressed that this type of “specific and conjunctural” interventions do not really help much to improve the quality of education in the country, while highlighting that similar initiatives from the past such as the Plan Bolívar 2000 and its financial administration by the Single Social Fund (FUS) are proof of this.

In the letter, the aforementioned UCAB school celebrates that although repairs are being made to the physical plant of educational institutions throughout the country, the maintenance work does not have to be assigned to special programs but rather must be a permanent job, which includes both all those who make up the community, as well as the authorities in areas such as services, public works and maintenance.

Likewise, it underlines that the conservation of schools and high schools does not have to be something of an emergency, for which it reproaches that only this action seeks to make an impact on public opinion to generate a matrix of favorable opinion for the Executive. .

In his opinion, the fact that the “bricomiles” act under the 1 by 10 scheme -used in elections by the PSUV- and that the civil group is attached to the political movement related to the ruling party, Somos Venezuela, does not contribute to the respect of the purposes and foundations of education in the country, which is established in the Constitution.

The UCAB also warns that the quality of education not only has to do with fixing the infrastructure, but with a series of factors such as the curricular design according to the educational demands of the country, a pedagogical practice that adapts to human development in an integral way. , strategies that are linked to the achievement of “complex quality performances” and educators, who are constantly training and are respected by all.

On June 20, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced the creation of “Community Military Brigades (Bricomiles)” for the repair of educational and health centers as of July.

«We are going to form the Bricomiles, Military Community Brigades for health and education. In the case of education, next Saturday, June 25, in all educational centers in the country (…) we will be forming brigades (…) for the repair of all educational centers », he pointed out.
