Uagrm: teachers who do not attend the referendum will have discounts on their salaries and students will pay tuition

The Illustrious University Council (ICU) approved the call for the referendum on the re-election of authorities, which will be held this May 16 in person and mandatory. The absence will be sanctioned with discounts of 20% in the salaries in the case of the teachers and payment of full tuition for students.

The Autonomous University Gabriel René Moreno (Uagrm) published Resolution 005/2022 of the ICU that approved the new date for the binding consultation, in which also the university community will decide whether or not the university rector should continue presiding the highest instance of university co-government.

Said resolution in its art. 21 sets sanctions for students and professors not attend the consultation. “Teachers will have discounts, only once, of an amount equivalent to 20% of the monthly salary” and “Students with tuition payment in the following academic management, in an amount equivalent to 100% of the officially fixed”says part of the document. Currently, students have free registration, that is, the registration of subjects is free of charge.

Part of the resolution

The rector of the Uagrm, Vicente Cuéllar, highlighted the decision of the ICU to set a new date for the referendum, since the consultation seeks the independence of powers in the university. It has been determined that the referendum will be held on May 16, that leaves us (university) authorities calmer because we are convinced that the referendum will strengthen the internal democracy of the Uagrm”, the principal pointed out.

This referendum is carried out in compliance with the Statute approved at the II university congress in 2018, which abolishes the reelection of authorities. There are 1,500 teachers and more than 100,000 students those that will define the future of the co-government bodies because they will have to decide if the rector should preside over the ICU and the re-election of directors.

He was previously suspended twice. In the first instance it was scheduled for April 11 and then for April 22.

The bell

With the new date, the campaign on social networks for and against the re-election of authorities intensified, so the ICU appeals to avoid acts that damage moral integrityhe and physics of the members of the university community. “Vote Yes, if you want to remove the ‘dinos’ from the Uagrm and No to the re-election of authorities”, are some of the messages that are shared through Facebook and Tic Toc.

the query

There are seven questions that will be asked in the referendum and the options are to vote yes or no. We detail them below:
