Since July, when monkeypox was first reported in the country, 29 people have tested positive for the disease.
The information was offered this Wednesday by the Minister of Public Health, Daniel Rivera, who pointed out that they detected two new people affected with the pathology; a 49-year-old man from Santiago and a 35-year-old woman from San Cristóbal, who are in their homes under home control because they have a mild contagion of the condition.
In the traditional weekly press conference held by the body he directs, which was held today in the province of Elías Piña, the official stressed that cases of the virus have decreased in all countries of the world, since the population has adopted self-care to avoid the condition.
“Thank God our country has not had serious people, those who were hospitalized were because they had an injury or because their throat or skin were infected, but not because they had a serious condition,” said the doctor, who was appointed as the new president of the Health Cabinet, replacing Vice President Raquel Peña.
He recalled that it is important to prevent intimate relationships with unknown people and those who have skin lesions so as not to be infected with monkeypox.
