It happened in the vicinity of Américo Vespucio and Diego Fernández in the town of Progreso, Canelones.
The 21-year-old policeman was riding his motorcycle with his 22-year-old partner and their 10-month-old son when they were surprised by two unknown men on a motorcycle who intercepted them and did not allow them to continue their march. They then extracted a firearm from among their clothes and pointed it at the family demanding the delivery of the birrodado.
The victim handed over the motorcycle to later identify himself as a police officer and wield his regulation weapon. At that moment, the assailants began to shoot, so the police force repelled the attack, injuring one of them. The second respondent managed to flee.
The corresponding communications were immediately made so that the police mobiles could attend the place.
Upon arrival, the troops verified that the victims were unharmed and that the robber was wounded, for which reason his transfer to a care center was coordinated where he was diagnosed with a gunshot wound to the back. The defendant was taken into police custody.
The case was taken over by Zone I Investigations personnel, who after analysis and intelligence work managed to identify the second perpetrator. It was possible to establish that both young men were required for a robbery committed some time before.
With the corresponding search warrant, they went to the home of the second author to arrest him, but he was not located.
Subsequently and knowing that he was wanted, the second perpetrator of the act appeared before the corresponding Section along with his lawyer.
