Two Argentines died and another is still hospitalized after being trapped by an avalanche

Two Argentines died and another remains hospitalized after being trapped by an avalanche of snow in a ski center in Canadawhile three other members of the group of friends were unharmed.

“The six of us were in one part, we jumped in and a very large avalanche 100 meters wide came off and grabbed three of us.Joshua recounted alonsoto the newspaper La Voz del Pueblo from the Buenos Aires town of Tres Arroyos, where he is from.

The man, who has been hospitalized in a Calgary clinic since the event occurred last Thursday, said that the snow dragged them over stone falls and trees, and hit them violently.


As a consequence of these blows, two of his friends died, Geronimo Reginafrom the town of Lobos, and Manuel Saenz de, City Bell, La Plata, while Alonso was found by a German tourist who was looking for survivors.

“My body was left under the snow and my head was out. I had the security device that is for avalanches that emits waves so that they can find us, thank God I had that and they were able to track me. They dug me up, my right leg is quite broken , tibia and fibula in three parts, the ankle broken in several parts and the pelvis as well, they activated all the helicopter rescue systems and transferred me to the clinic,” he narrated.

The six friends had left on a motorhome trip the previous Sunday and stopped at ski resorts in the Kicking Horse area, about 200 kilometers from Calgary.


The avalanche occurred in the Purcell Mountains, British Columbia, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministrywhere it is specified that this Wednesday the autopsies will be carried out on the two deceased citizens, whose bodies remain at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

“The Consulate General of the Republic in Vancouver is in permanent contact with the relatives of the deceased citizens to facilitate the procedures before local authorities and subsequent transfer of the remains to the country. Likewise, it is assisting the couple of the injured citizen, who arrived in Canada on 02/19 (Sunday) to accompany him in his recovery,” reported the Foreign Ministry.
