TSJE invites data update

TSJE invites data update

On Thursday, December 30, at 11:59 p.m., the registration and update period in the Permanent Civic Registry (RCP) ends. Authorities of the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE), urge the population to come closer to be able to vote without inconvenience next year.

Those interested in being able to do so should go to the nearest district offices of the TSJE.

María Teresa Peralta, general director of the Electoral Registry of the TSJE, reported that each year the registration period is enabled from March 1 to December 30. He stressed that, despite the pandemic, jobs did not decrease.

“We are working non-stop in the 282 electoral registry offices, even in the new districts already authorized by law,” he said.

AUTOMATIC ENROLLMENT
According to law 4559/12 that establishes Automatic Registration in the Permanent Civic Registry, people who turned 18 years of age as of January 16, 2012, are already part of the Permanent Civic Registry (RCP) automatically.

The address and others are taken from the database of the Identification Department of the National Police.

Therefore, the CPR must be performed by people who turned 18 before the aforementioned date and who are not yet part of it. So too, should people who want to update their residences. It should be remembered that a person must go to the city where they are registered.

“It is about updating addresses. People who do not appear in the register. Automatic registration runs only for young people when they turn 18 years old, ”he said.

Peralta explains that many of these young people get their cédulas when they are children, and in the course of the following years, they change their address. That is why it is important to go to update the data.

For example, these young people get their ID when they live in Asunción. For work reasons, parents are forced to travel to another point such as Ciudad del Este. Then, the automatic registration shows Asuncion. In this way, if you want to pay, you will have to travel again to the capital of the country to be able to do so.

There are also cases where older adults who have never registered for the RCP, come to register for the first time, since the automatic registration only came into effect since 2012.

CENSUS
Regarding the register that will be taken into account for next year’s simultaneous internal elections, people who do not update or register now, may do so from March 1 to May 31, 2022.

RESIDENTS ABROAD
Peralta finally reported that around 60,000 naturalized Paraguayans were registered in the RCP during the last municipal elections. There are also Paraguayans living abroad who can register via the web.

The latter must enter the TSJE website, fill out a form in the tab; “inscription”. Then, the IT department communicates with her or him to verify that it is not a bot (a computer program that pretends to be a person) and if so, it enters the national registry.

“We have compatriots who are in Iceland, Finland, Scotland, England, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Ireland, France, Italy and more. The system is very friendly but citizens do not want to register ”, he finally regretted.
