TSJ ruling returns land to peasants from Los Tramojos

The Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) ruled in favor of a group of peasant families that produced food in Hato los Tramojos, in the Camaguán municipality of Guárico state, five years after their eviction from those lands.

The ruling of the TSJ denied the protection measure requested by the owner, demonstrating the ownership legitimately awarded to the affected peasants.

The diatribe dates back to 2017 when around 50 peasants received the aforementioned property in 2010 by President Hugo Chávez. Over the years they were forcibly evicted, thus beginning a legal fight to recover it.

The National Land Institute (INTI) accompanied the demand to reach a consensus regarding the distribution of the 4,800 hectares of the property after the annulment of private property.

The peasants who persisted in rescuing the herd had the support of the Peasant Struggles Platform, and were part of the Admirable Peasant March that took place in 2018 in Caracas.
