Trujillo: more than 4 thousand children with facial deformities smiled again after operations

Some 45 children with congenital facial deformities, such as cleft lip and palate, recently underwent surgery at the Virgen de la Puerta High Complexity Hospital in Trujillo, and recovered their smiles.

This was achieved thanks to the agreement between EsSalud and the Global Smile Foundation (GSF), which establishes that a humanitarian mission of the aforementioned US institution operates annually on minors with cleft lip, cleft palate and other malformations. So far, more than 4,000 children have been intervened,

“The smiles of more than 4,000 children with cleft lip and palate have already been recovered (so far in the agreement). We are renewing the agreement for three more years and we hope it will be forever because there are many children who need to recover their smile”, reported EsSalud.

The Social Security of Health also announced the construction of a fissured center to treat congenital facial deformities. It will be located in Trujillo, La Libertad, and will be named Usama Hamdan, in honor of the president of the Global Smile Foundation.
