Trout feed rises and worries Huancavelica producers

All products begin to rise in price, so the low price of trout is an option, however, this situation could change.

This is because the price of food is beginning to rise, a fact that will definitely affect the price of this product from the mountains, the same price that will also affect the people of Huancavelica.

“The issue of the high cost of food is an international issue”; stated Nestor Gutierrez, regional director of production.

He added: “Before it cost 4 soles per kilo, today it is 6.50 to 7 soles, from here we call on you to consume trout, it is a healthy product, harmless food, which is trout and for its nutritional benefits for children, athletes, mothers pregnant”.

In this sense, Edgar Quispe Llantoy, president of the Asociación Nueva Esperanza Unidos de Pilpichaca, informed Correo Huancavelica that prices have risen worryingly.

“Of what was being maintained, for example, the fattening food that was at 122 soles, is now at 162 soles, that is, now it has risen 40 soles more per 25-kilo bag,” said Quispe Llantoy.

He added: “(The retail price) should increase, but unfortunately it does not increase, the producers are sometimes forced to sell, because they no longer have the means to buy the food, even if it is losing, but, you have to sell, that is what we are doing; in the short term it can take us down.

Among other difficulties that trout producers have, the director of production commented the official is that in production there is limited technical assistance and training, which they have been facing with the presence of the Aquaculture Technical Unit, which seeks to improve the value-added chain and the organization of internships in Callao

Gutierrez also said that the Huancavelica region is currently the third national producer of trout with a production of 4,500 tons, the same that is sold in Ayacucho, Ica, Junín and Lima.

“With the production of trout, about 1,600 producers are employed and (with the project that they have been promoting) an average of 800 permanent jobs will also be generated, with which we seek to improve the economy of the region,” the official explained.
