Trough: COE raises the provinces on alert for downpours to 14

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains 4 provinces on yellow alert and increases the number of provinces on green alert for floods to 8, because the presence of a trough will generate downpours with electrical storms and gusts of wind, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.

The provinces on yellow alert are Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Monte Plata and San Pedro de Macorís.

While on green alert are Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, La Romana, La Altagracia, San Cristóbal, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez and Gran Santo Domingo.

The COE took the measure by virtue of the bulletin issued by the National Meteorological Office (Onamet), which establishes that they were showing a mostly cloudy sky with scattered precipitation in towns in the eastern, southeastern regions (especially points of Greater Santo Domingo ), southwest, northeast, Cordillera Central and the border area.

The trough located to the east of Puerto Rico will provide a high moisture content from the Caribbean Sea, therefore, during this afternoon and night the cloudiness will be developing significantly accompanied by moderate to heavy downpours on occasions, electrical storms and gusts of wind , mainly in the aforementioned areas.

For this Sunday, the rainy conditions will continue from this morning and early morning hours, especially in provinces near the Caribbean coast (including Greater Santo Domingo), the east, northeast and the Central Mountain Range, being moderate to strong downpours at times. , thunderstorms and gusts of wind.

The downpours will remain during the day and night, as they will also spread to other sectors located in the northwest, north and Valle del Cibao, as a result of the effects of the trough over the country, plus the proximity of a new trough in height located in the central portion of Cuba.

For the start of the work week, the low-level trough will move west, reaching the western part of the country. For this reason, the eastern, southeastern and southwestern portions will experience a gradual improvement in rainfall, with scattered showers expected. in the morning and early evening.

For the provinces located in the northwest, Valle del Cibao and the Cordillera Central, cloudy increases with downpours, thunderstorms and gusts of wind are expected during the afternoon, due to the permanence of the instability of the trough in height.

Temperatures will remain cool, especially at night and early in the morning, especially in mountainous areas and valleys in the interior of the country.
