Havana Cuba. – This Monday, April 18, the trial against the peaceful opponent Walfrido Rodríguez Piloto and five other protesters of July 11, 2021 (11J) was held in the Municipal Court of Diez de Octubre.
Rodríguez Piloto lives in La Lisa. He is a former political prisoner and is also part of the opposition movement “Justice” chaired by José Sylva. On July 11, 2021 participated in popular protests occurred in more than 60 locations on the island and in retaliation he was arrested on the 17th of that month at his home.
The prosecutor’s request for him was nine years in prison for a series of alleged fabricated crimes such as “possession of weapons and explosive materials”, in addition to “public disorder” and “disrespect”.
As described by her sister, Marlin Sonia Rodríguez Piloto, this Monday the trial began at 9:00 in the morning and lasted until 7:00 at night. The woman reveals that the witnesses, all police officers, contradicted themselves in her statements. She adds that the hearing was characterized by unusual maneuvers to show that Rodríguez Piloto was a “known counterrevolutionary,” for which the authorities used a video of CubaNet in which the opponent appeared making statements.
Marlin Sonia also recounts that, when her brother was given the floor, he took the opportunity to point out, among other things, that “the only and true reason for the dictatorship” to condemn him were his ideals.
The other five 11J protesters tried together with Rodríguez Piloto were Fdelián Hernández Bautista (prosecutor request: 12 years in prison), Richard Echavarría López (15 years), Rogelián Hernández Bautista (12 years), Adonis Garvizo Otero (12 years) and José Eduardo Jardines Rodriguez (15 years old). All of them are neighbors of El Palenque, in La Lisa.
