The indefinite strike that heavy cargo carriers abide by in various regions, since early Tuesday morning, has led to the suspension of face-to-face school classes in educational institutions in Lambayeque and Cusco, in order to safeguard the integrity of teachers and schoolchildren.
The suspension was disseminated through a statement from the UGEL Chiclayo, in coordination with the Regional Education Management. The director of the UGEL Chiclayo, Henry Puelles, pointed out that this decision was taken as prevention and that new measures would be evaluated during the day according to the evolution of the strike.
“This March 28, a third block of students from public educational institutions were going to return to face-to-face classes, but in this northern region it has been suspended due to the strike of cargo carriers that began at zero hours”, Puelles pointed out in statements collected by “La República”.
The official explained that the measure affects 128 educational institutions in the province of Chiclayo, both in urban and rural areas.
In the cases of UGEL Lambayeque and UGEL Ferreñafe, they issued statements recommending that directors of educational institutions suspend face-to-face classes.
Children of Cusco affected
The Local Educational Management Unit (UGEL) of Cusco also reported the decision to suspend classes in rural areas of the region due to the blockade of various accesses to the city. The director of the UGEL, Luis Delgado, confirmed to RPP that they asked teachers to conduct their classes remotely so as not to harm minors.
“We have asked the directors of these educational institutions to do remote work during the duration of this strike.“, he pointed.
Delgado added that institutions have also been asked to implement virtual classes for children who live in rural areas but study in urban areas, due to roadblocks.
Commander Robert Paucar, head of the PNP Highway Protection Unit, reported that traffic to Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Madre de Dios has been blocked.
The problem has been aggravated in Cusco because tanker trucks are unable to supply water to various housing associations in the city.
