It did not leave people injured, but they fear a greater emergency. The Mayor’s Office announced a commission to assess the damage to the Las Pailas bridge in Caquetá.
On the night of Friday, December 3, an emergency occurred while people were mobilizing across the Las Pailas bridge in Caquetá, in the municipality of Puerto Rico.
The structure located on the Las Damas ravine collapsed as several people crossed.
Fortunately, the event did not end in tragedy, as they were not injured by the collapse.
However, the inhabitants of the La Estrellita village, the Montebello indigenous council, part of the El Carmelo village and two tourist sites in the area were left incommunicado.
“I thank God that no lives were lost in an announced tragedy, which neither the Mayor’s Office nor the Government attended,” said Oscar Rodríguez, president of the El Carmelo district.
“I call on the responsible entities to visit the place and evaluate all the effects caused to the peasant communities by the fall of the bridge in the El Carmelo village,” he said.
The Las Pailas bridge in Caquetá has been deteriorating for years despite the fact that this northern part of the department is a tourist site.
