It did not leave people injured, but they fear a greater emergency. The Mayor’s Office announced a commission to assess the damage to the Las Pailas bridge in Caquetá.

On the night of Friday, December 3, an emergency occurred while people were mobilizing across the Las Pailas bridge in Caquetá, in the municipality of Puerto Rico.
The structure located on the Las Damas ravine collapsed as several people crossed.
Fortunately, the event did not end in tragedy, as they were not injured by the collapse.
However, the inhabitants of the La Estrellita village, the Montebello indigenous council, part of the El Carmelo village and two tourist sites in the area were left incommunicado.
“I thank God that no lives were lost in an announced tragedy, which neither the Mayor’s Office nor the Government attended,” said Oscar Rodríguez, president of the El Carmelo district.
“I call on the responsible entities to visit the place and evaluate all the effects caused to the peasant communities by the fall of the bridge in the El Carmelo village,” he said.
The Las Pailas bridge in Caquetá has been deteriorating for years despite the fact that this northern part of the department is a tourist site.
The Mayor’s Office responded
For its part, the Mayor’s Office of Puerto Rico, Caquetá, after presenting its apologies for the damages, reported on the same Saturday, December 4, that they would be evaluating the events and the restructuring of the bridge.
“The working group of the Secretariat of Planning and Infrastructure will be advancing what is pertinent to security,” they indicated.
A report will be delivered to determine the restructuring of the bridge.
They recognized that “the Las Pailas bridge in Caquetá is of great importance for the tourist, cultural and social development of our municipality”.
This December 9 will be the public hearing of routes of the Caquetá How are we going ?.
There, the National Institute of Vías INVIAS and the control bodies will evaluate progress and status of the maintenance and paving works of the roads in Florencia – Suaza, and in Puerto Rico – San Vicente del Caguán – Balsilla.
They have asked the communities to participate, therefore, one of the issues to be addressed would be the Las Pailas bridge in Caquetá.
