Trade, border and integration: topics of Petro's visit to Peru

President Gustavo Petro met this Monday with his Peruvian counterpart Pedro Castillo in a meeting that dealt with issues of bilateral trade, border, security and environment, among others.

This is his first trip abroad. Petro since his investiture as head of state, on August 7. At the same time, it reaffirms what the president said about “refocusing” Colombia’s integration with the region, especially with the Andean Community of Nations.

Petro’s visit to Lima takes place within the framework of the meeting of the XXII Andean Presidential Councilappointment during which Ecuador will deliver to Peru the pro tempore Presidency of the Andean Community.

Also participating in this event will be the Heads of State of Peru, Pedro Castillo; Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and Bolivia, Luis Arceas well as the general secretary of the CAN, Jorge Hernando Pedraza.

Later, President Petro will go to the Government Palace, in the city of Lima, where he will receive military honors from the Presidential Guard of the Republic of Peru and will participate in an official lunch offered by President Pedro Castillo in honor of the Heads of State.

At the end of his agenda in Peru, the Colombian president will visit the ‘Place of Historical Memory, Tolerance and Social Inclusion’, as well as the headquarters of the Colombian Embassy in Lima.
